Takeaways from Week 3 of the NFL season

It is already week 4 and the rhythm of the NFL has been high since the very beginning. Before week 4 begins tonight, let’s take a look back at what week 3 taught us. A couple of teams look very good and others disastrous. What are the main takeaways this week?

Russell Wilson and Josh Allen both look unstoppable. They have combined for 24 touchdown passes in three weeks. That’s quite an achievement. They both are 3-0, The Seattle Seahawks won over a good Cowboys team and the Buffalo Bills kept their cool in a crazy game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Wilson is having a historic start this season, he looks hot and he is constantly saving the day for a Seattle team with quite a few issues on the other side of the ball.

Russell Wilson just ripped the Cowboys defense passing for five touchdowns, throwing for 315 yards and no interceptions. By the way, it was Wilson’s second consecutive game with five TD passes, a franchise first. And his 14 TD passes through Week 3 is an NFL record, surpassing the 13 of Patrick Mahomes in 2018.

“I have not seen a quarterback play better than this,” Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy said Sunday night on NBC. “Russell Wilson is playing out of his mind.”

Allen’s first two years in the NFL weren’t all that great. This year, however, things have been greatly different.

Through the first three weeks, Allen has the third-lowest rate of uncatchable passes thrown over 10 yards downfield and has also been very sharp in a tight window. He kept his cool at the end of the game against the Rams and finished strong to get a win for Buffalo.

On the other hand, Carson Wentz is having lots of troubles in Philly and Chicago is definitely killing Trubisky’s career.

Wentz has been one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL this season. The Philadelphia Eagles have not won a single game, with two losses and a tie. Many commenters have seen that Wentz has been very uncomfortable in the pocket with a big accuracy issue.

In three games, his results are very thin: three touchdown passes and six interceptions. Wentz is only ahead of Sam Darnold and Dwayne Haskins, two struggling quarterbacks this year. Let’s just say the investment of 100 million dollars made in their star quarterback still needs to be earned so far this season.

In the windy city up north, we testified another drama. Matt Nagy has finally decided to bench Trubisky and put the former Wentz backup quarterback Nick Foles in. And Foles delivered a stunning fourth-quarter comeback to bring the Chicago Bears to 3-0.

He was able to revive the Bears’ poor passing game with three fourth-quarter touchdown drives in nine minutes against the Atlanta Falcons. Not a bad day for him. However, the Bears decision to pull off Mitchell Trubisky in order to put a veteran quarterback in the final game will be critical in the young quarterback career. Trubisky has not had a tremendous beginning of a season but the Bears were 2-0 anyway so he made the job. What will it mean for Trubisky confidence and credibility in the locker room?

Globally, however, the beginning of the season is all about touchdowns and high scores! Ten teams so far in 2020 have scored 30-plus and lost. It is quite incredible. In 11 games over the past two weeks, you had to score at least 34 points to win.

How could we not talk about the surprisingly underdog Kansas City Chiefs (Superbowl winners people!) shutting down the hot Baltimore Ravens led by MVP Lamar Jackson. That was an impressive Chiefs performance by the offense and defense.

Andy Reid pulled out some amazing and crazy plays of his hat including a touchdown pass to Anthony Sherman and OL star Eric Fisher. Their creativity was off the charts and made Mahomes look unbeatable.

There is still plenty of football left to play this season, and we will see what is coming up in week 4. Kansas City plays the revamped New England Patriots in a matchup that will certainly be interesting.
