Rumor: Teddy Bridgewater linked to Chargers

Just a few weeks ago, the Los Angeles Chargers parted ways with longtime starter Philip Rivers. For the first time since 2005, someone else will be under center for the Bolts.

Without a clear plan for the QB position in 2020, the rumors have begun in Los Angeles. There are many established QBs hitting the open market this offseason. There is also speculation that the Chargers could try to start fresh by drafting a QB in April’s draft.

The latest news regarding potential plans are linking Teddy Bridgewater to LA. Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman reports that he is “attached” to the Chargers.

Teddy has spent the last two seasons backing up Drew Brees in New Orleans. When Brees was injured during the 2019 season, Bridgewater went 5-0 in relief, throwing for 1205 yards and 9 touchdowns, with only 2 interceptions.

Among free agent QBs this offseason, Bridgewater ranks among the best. Many teams are expected to make a run for him, and some expect the 27-year-old to break the $20 million-per-year mark.

If the Chargers do sign Bridgewater, they will use the 6th overall pick to fill a different roster hole. The Chargers haven’t won the AFC West since 2009 and need to improve steadily to compete not only with the defending Super Bowl Champs, but two improving young squads in Las Vegas and Denver. They also need some fresh faces to help fill the seats and compete with the Rams for the Los Angeles market.
