NFL Divisional Round Review

The divisional round has completed and it will be Kansas City Chiefs vs Tennessee Titans for the AFC Championship and San Francisco 49ers vs Greenbay Packers in the NFC Championship.

This weekend was never short of excitement and intrigue. We’ve had it all, one game we all knew the what the outcome would be, 49ers, another game we didn’t see coming, Titans, a blood bath of a game, Packers, and finally a game that will go down as an all-time-great, Chiefs.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Minnesota Vikings

The last time the Viking felt like they had a chance was at the at 15:00 in the first quarter. I’m sorry Vikings fans, but the truth is, you knew you didn’t have a chance right from the get go.

The 49ers defense was stifling and didn’t allow Brandon Cooks to get traction. Cooks has been a key to the Vikings offense and when you limit him to 18 yards rushing and 8 yards receiving, your offense becomes one dimensional and predicable.

Ever since the Saints got eliminated, the 49ers have been my pick to represent the NFC in the Superbowl.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Tennessee Titans

What…. happened? The Ravens got punched in the mouth. They couldn’t get anything going on offense and their defense couldn’t stop Derrick Henry. When the winning quarter back had 88 yards passing, you would think they would have lost. Nope!

As a Chiefs fan, I can’t be too sad that the Titans beat the Ravens. However, Since Andy Reid has taken over with the Chiefs, he is 1 – 4, losing 4 of the last 5 games. Over the last few years we have started to exorcise demons, and let me tell you. This is one that needs to happen next weekend.

Greenbay Packers vs. Seattle Seahawks

Having just come down from the Chiefs game, this game felt very boring. When the 4th quarter rolled around and the winning team had 27 points, I thought… man Houston had 24 at the end of the first quarter!

Even though it was a slower game, both teams really did fight. Aaron Rodgers had two amazing throws at the end of the game to ice it. The last spot was a little subject, but if it was 4th and inches, I’m pretty sure the Packers would have gone for it and gotten it.

Needless to say the Seahawks never quit. They were fighting the entire way, and had a real chance in making it happen. I think they should have gone for it on 4th down with 3 minutes left in the game.

Congrats Packers, you earned the right to get beat by the 49ers next week!

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Houston Texans

Ok, I know if you are reading this article, this is the game you really care about. If you didn’t get a chance to watch it, go to Youtube and watch the highlights now! It was by far one of the best games I have ever watched and there have been some great ones with Mahomes.

I know there were Chiefs fans that were ready to walk away, and some people left the stadium. When your team is down 24 – 0 in the first quarter, it doesn’t look good. This comeback ended up being the 5th largest deficit comeback in playoff history.

The first few two drives were stopped because of easy catches that were dropped by pretty much everyone, Kelce, Robinson,  and Hill. The hill pass drop was a tough catch, but he did have the muffed punt the series prior.

Now that we have talked the negative, at 10:52 in the second quarter the Chiefs begin the most epic, scorching hot, comeback I have ever seen and put up 41 unanswered points. 41!!!

It all started with Mecole Hardman running back a kickoff to the Houston 44. He almost broke it all the way, but ended up stepping out of bounds. This gave the Chiefs their first spark to get score a touchdown. They would end up scoring a touchdown on 7 consecutive drives, which is another NFL playoff record.

Another MVP of this game is Daniel Sorensen. Dirty Dan got alot of heat this offseason. There were alot of talking heads, fans, and fanalists that were calling for his job. We all need to take a moment and appreciate the fact that he just keeps making plays. Watch him stop this fake punt, he is stalking his prey.

Then he follows it up with a forced fumble.

Dirty Dan deserves the game ball. I know Kelce had 3 touchdowns, Damien Williams had 3 total touchdowns,  even Patrick Mahomes threw for 5 touchdowns. Nope! Give it to Dirty Dan!

Also, I gotta give a shout out to Sammy Watkins. The guy has been all but gone since week 1, but seeing him put up 76 yards on his two targets as well as a nice run for 14 yards. Nice to see him involved again.

All in all it the Chiefs were terrible in all three phases in the first quarter, and then dominant in all three phases for the remainder of the game.
