Mahomes set to speak to Texas Tech graduates

Patrick Mahomes has become one of the most recognizable faces of the NFL, obtaining first an MVP trophy in his second season and a Super Bowl in his third. Not bad at all…

Mahomes’ responsibilities and values are great to pass down to fellow students or future contenders to the NFL draft.

So when they offered him a gig to be the commencement speaker at Texas Tech’s virtual graduation ceremony on May 23, which will be livestreamed, he did not hesitate.

Patrick Mahomes was a QB at Texas Tech from 2014 through 2016 before he entered the NFL draft and was selected by the Chiefs in the first round in 2017 to learn NFL tricks behind veteran Alex Smith in his final season in Kansas City. Since then, and still a supporter of the Red Raiders publicly, his influence in the sports world has grown and lots of young people look up to him.

“Patrick’s story, both here at Texas Tech and in the NFL, have been a great source of pride for Red Raiders and an inspiration for thousands,” Texas Tech president Lawrence Schovanec said.

“During that rise to success, Patrick has never wavered from the lessons learned from his family, coaches and his time as a student-athlete at Texas Tech, displaying class, humility and a competitive fire to be the best. We are very pleased and grateful that he will address our May 2020 graduates who have persevered in spite of unique challenges to earn their degrees.”

His maturity as a young player has always been a strength of his. This is perhaps because he was used to professional sports with his dad being a former MLB star and maybe because of a down to earth education.

Graduation ceremonies, which are normally held at the university’s basketball arena, were canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic but Mahomes and two other students receiving degrees will make sure this graduation will be one of a kind.

Mahomes is one of the hottest young sports stars right now, his skills on the field are obvious, he is fun, he has an original look, and his impeccable off the field behavior is known to all.

His speech at Texas Tech will be widely followed on May 23rd without any doubt.
