League set to start new league year and free agency on time

The COVID-19 outbreak has halted the sports world, with almost every single sport suspending or cancelling all activities.

Despite postponing the annual owners meeting, originally scheduled for the end of March, the NFL has not made any adjustments to the new league year calendar. The new year is set to begin Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that many team officials around the league are skeptical of this, due to the fact that a lot of logistical things need to be taken care of during free agency, including visits and physicals.

Many NFL teams are pulling scouts and personnel from travel and making the decision to not attend pro days out of precaution. Some teams around the league are also shutting down their team facilities.

The NFL has not made any changes to the NFL Draft, currently scheduled for April 23-25.

This is all as of writing, and as with everything else in this time, is subject to change quickly. However, for the time being, with almost all other sports off the table, the NFL offseason will provide a sense of normality in a crazy time.

For how long that will remain is unknown.
