Injury updates: Osemele out, Watkins missing time, Sherman to COVID list

Since Sunday’s game against the Raiders, the Chiefs have seen a few key members of the offense go down to the injury bug. Kelechi Osemele will likely miss the remainder of the season, Sammy Watkins will likely miss time, and Anthony Sherman has been added to the COVID-19 Reserve list.

Starting off with the worst of the three, or at least the most impactful long-term, Kelechi Osemele tore a tendon in both of his knees. This ends the end of his first season with the Chiefs. Osemele played well in the first five games, playing with physicality and tenacity, and the offense line noticeably struggled after his departure.

Sammy Watkins also left the game on Sunday, and will likely miss a few weeks, according to Adam Schefter. This will likely lead to more reps and targets for Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson.

In COVID-related news, the Chiefs not had any positive tests since an assistant coach tested positive on Saturday. Even with no positive tests since then, fullback Anthony Sherman was added to the COVID reserve list after he was exposed to the virus.

Again, Sherman did not test positive himself, but his situation will be one to watch over the next week or so as the Chiefs and the NFL as a whole continue to try and navigate a unique season.
