With how good the Chiefs have been over the past four seasons, is it realistic to see them still be the best team in the AFC?
The Kansas City Chiefs have been one of the best teams in the AFC since Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes got together. However, the Chiefs were one of the few teams which may have gotten worse with the losses of Tyreek Hill and Tyrann Mathieu this offseason.
Now, all of the oddsmakers are putting the Bengals, the Chiefs, and the Bills as the favorites to win the AFC in the 2022 season. All three of these teams have franchise QB’s who are not in their respective primes yet, they will be the top contenders for years to come. But that’s not even mentioning the great quarterbacks they have in the AFC West division and the talent those teams have added around them.
The Los Angeles Chargers got much better Justin Herbert, their quarterback, already impressed those past two years, but they will now have one of the best pass-rushing duos in the league with Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Raiders added the best wide receiver in the league, Davante Adams to help out Derek Carr.
But the AFC West was not the only division that got much better. The Tennessee Titans got some good players to strengthen the team, the Cleveland Browns traded for a controversial but very talented Deshaun Watson, and the Colts traded for veteran QB Matt Ryan.
The Buffalo Bills, already early favorites to be AFC Champions just reinforced their defense with the signing of Von Miller and they went and extended Stefon Diggs for four more seasons.
Another possible surprise? Who knows how good the Steelers will be with Mitchell Trubisky at the helm, Trubisky has proven he can be stable at times. If he can stay healthy and play well on the Steelers, they might be a legitimate threat to the AFC.
The Chiefs haven’t made a ton of noise this offseason, but they were able to make moves that made the team better. They added a couple of good wide receivers with Juju Smith-Schuster and Montez Valdez-Scantling to help Patrick Mahomes go to a third Super Bowl in four years. It is difficult to assess how good the Cheifs are going to be but I still think the Chiefs are the best team in the AFC as they are the most stable and consistent organization in the AFC and they have the best Quarterback in the league.
