Bills – Chiefs AFC Divisional Playoff Preview

The Bills and Chiefs meet in the postseason for the second-straight postseason and the stakes are just as high as they were last season. Can the Chiefs get another win over the Bills on thier revenge tour?

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of the best wildcard game they have ever played, and that’s not much of an exaggeration. The Chiefs beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 42-21, putting up those 35 points in just over 15 minutes of game time after a ridiculously slow first quarter in which the Steelers took an early lead. I would say the Chiefs had their most convincing win of the season because they overcame what would normally put their offense in a rut, their defense was solid and they only had one major mistake all day.

Now the Chiefs will have to play Bills, who are coming off of the first-ever perfect game in NFL history, seven touchdown drives on eight possessions, no punts, and scored a touchdown on every drive except the kneel-downs to end the game. The Buffalo Bills are going to come in with a lot of confidence after another AFC East title and a win over the Chiefs in the regular season in Week 5, but it was in the middle of the roughest stretch of football the Chiefs have had in the Mahomes era.

Since that loss to the Bills, the Chiefs went 11-2 the rest of the way and won the AFC West and the number two seed in the AFC. The Chiefs are a brand new team since then, the defense has been reborn with a healthy Wilie Gay and Frank Clark back and playing more snaps and the addition of Melvin Ingram on the defensive line. The Chiefs offense has seemed to find ways to score points constantly again and Mahomes is not having the turnover problems he was having early in the season. The Chiefs and the Bills should the seen as the best game this weekend and it’s not really close.

The Bills are out for revenge for last years’ AFC Championship Game and they want to become the next team to win a Super Bowl with their rising star QB. The Bills are a very frightening opponent, I said earlier they had a perfect game against New England last week, they also bring in the number one defense to Kansas City with exceptional players at all three levels. The Bills are going to be the toughest test for the Chiefs and are going to bring everything they have to beat the Chiefs. Josh Allen is coming into this game as the media favorite over the “Golden Child” Patrick Mahomes but the Chiefs have this game marked as well.

The Bills embarrassed the Chiefs in Week 5 and Kansas City has added that to their motivational board. I am interested to see the Chiefs attack the defense of the Bills. I expect them to try to impose their will on the ground early taking advantage of the middle of the strength on the interior of the Chiefs’ offensive line. Creed Humphrey, Trey Smith, and Joe Thuney have been excellent this season and are looking like they’ll be the x-factors heading into this matchup.

CREED IS GOOD

I think the Chiefs are going to get into a hole early, the Bills are going to come out swinging early, wanting to get up on the Chiefs quickly. I think the Chiefs will come backfiring, getting Mahomes a rushing TD off a scramble. I expect the Chiefs’ defense to get a stop on the Bills’ second drive of the game. The Chiefs impose their will on the ground getting a pass TD to Kelce. Bills and Chiefs go toe-to-toe and Mahomes throws a TD late to help secure the victory over the Bills and they advance to their fourth straight AFC Championship game.

I have the Chiefs winning 31-27.
