An intense game vs Tennessee awaits the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7 and these three players should be the most entertaining to watch.
A marquee matchup against the Titans is another great test for the Kansas City Chiefs offense and defense, more so for the defense than the offense. The Chiefs will have to show out against another playoff-caliber team on the road, but these three players are going to be key for a victory in Nashville.
3. Willie Gay Jr.
With how good the Chiefs’ defense was able to handle the Washington offense, they seemed to have found a little edge as they head into a five-star matchup against the Titans’ offense. Willie Gay Jr. has been able to make an impact when he has been in the rotation, he’s been able to cover a lot of tight ends and running backs while handling blockers in the run game.
Gay will have to step it up as Anthony Hitchens is out and has a rookie linebacker in Nick Bolton next to him. It will be interesting to see if he can help the defense by being a leader of the front seven and helping to stop the monster which is Derrick Henry. Look for Gay to make some key tackles and stops throughout the game.
2. Josh Gordon
FLASH AHHHHH!!!!
We might need a savior at the second wide receiver position, Hardman and Pringle have been serviceable but have disappointed. They don’t seem to gel as well with Patrick Mahomes and have been inconsistent when they get opportunities. The Chiefs need to get Josh Gordon more involved so they can keep Tyreek and Kelce on single coverage and as long as he’s consistent it will be better than the committee they have been running.
If Gordon can get a lot of great reps and catch some big catches it would help to cement him in the rotation and as a viable option to continue to take reps away from the other wide receivers it’s a plus. I have nothing against the other wide receivers but being able to see Gordon get some solid plays in against Tennessee would really help the hopes of Chiefs fans as they try to keep up the offensive production against a bad defensive backfield.
You should watch to see if Gordon can get a big play vs the Titans and to see if he looks good enough to take the second receiver job away from Hardman, Pringle, or even Robinson.
1. Chris Jones
Here we go, let’s hope he can bring Sack Nation back to prominence!
With rumors about Chris Jones moving back inside and the defense playing well last week, it should be fascinating to see how he does back on the inside against the Titans. I expect him to look like his dominant self against the battered offensive line of the Titans. He’s going to need to be great to help to slow down the walking tank who is Derrick Henry.
The Chiefs defense has struggled to say the least and it has been due to the players playing out of position or not playing at all. Chris Jones is the former, he was out of position for the first four games of the season, and opposing offenses were all to exploit it. Moving him back inside makes so much sense because he is dominant when he plays defensive tackle. Most Chiefs fans could have told you that keeping him at edge was a bad idea by the end of Week 2, but hopefully, his presence back on the line can really help to stop the Titans’ explosive attack.
