Gassen’s Chiefs Mock Draft 1.0

With free agency wrapping up around the league, I’ve decided to release my first mock draft for the 2021 NFL draft.

Now, this mock is subject to change because free agency isn’t over and the Chiefs have plenty of moves they could still make. I know the Chiefs are most likely not done in free agency yet, however, I’m basing this mock as if the Chiefs are done for free agency.

Chiefs trade picks 31, 63 and 144 to the Washington Football Team for pick 19

Round 1, Pick 19: Chiefs select OG/OT Alijah Vera-Tucker, USC

After the Chiefs cut both of their starting tackles, it’s been clear for a while that they need to find a suitable replacement for left tackle Eric Fisher. If Tucker does fall to 19, it would be hard for the Chiefs to not trade up for the utility offensive lineman who received an 81.8 pff grade in 2020. Tucker played 466 snaps allowing four sacks, two hits, and two hurries.

Round 3, Pick 94: Chiefs select CB Benjamin St-Juste, Minnesota

With Bashaud Breeland most likely leaving in free agency, the Chiefs could use a replacement. St-Juste recorded the best man-on-man grade at the senior bowl this year and he fits right in with Spagnuolo’s scheme and system.

Round 4, Pick 136: Chiefs select WR Anthony Schwartz, Auburn

The Chiefs have been looking for a WR2 in free agency, and although Schwartz may not be it right away, he can still add exceptional help to the Chiefs core. Schwartz is a home run threat with explosive speed, fitting him right in with Reid’s offense.

Round 5, Pick 175: Chiefs select EDGE Wyatt Hubert, Kansas State

If the Chiefs can’t land the veteran EDGE rusher that they’re looking for then Hubert would be a great underrated addition to Spagnuolo’s defense. Hubert ran a seven-second three-cone drill and had a 31-inch vertical jump, a very impressive number for a guy standing at 6’2 and 265 pounds.

Round 5, Pick 181: Chiefs select S Jacoby Stevens, LSU

Steven Spaganuola loves running three safety sets with Thornhill, Sorenson and Mathieu, and with Sorenson getting up there in age the Chiefs could look for a great run first safety in Jacoby Stevens to replace him with.

Round 6, Pick 207: Chiefs select OT Landon Young, Kentucky

The Chiefs have no depth at left tackle, and after trading up earlier in the draft the Chiefs will need someone to sit behind Vera-Tucker for depth in case the line sees as many injuries as it did in 2020.
