Mike Pennel has been suspended for the first two games of the 2020 season, according to Tom Pelissero.
Pennel will miss both the opener against the Texans and Week 2 vs the Chargers in Los Angeles. He will be back in time for the matchup with the Ravens in Week 3.
He took to Twitter to formally accept and apologize for his suspension.
Pennel was a major midseason pickup in 2019, helping turn around a run defense that needed a spark. In eight games, he recorded 24 tackles, including two for loss, and a sack, and his presence along the line helped others along the front seven close gaps and get to the running back.
Without Pennel in the fold for the first two games, second-year defensive tackle Khalen Saunders will likely get more rotational reps behind Chris Jones and Derrick Nnadi.
