A third Chief has opted out of the upcoming season.
Niang was selected 96th overall in the third round of the 2020 draft, and was expected to be a key depth player on the offensive line behind All-Pro tackle Mitchell Schwartz and Eric Fisher. He also was expected to see time at guard in his rookie season.
Niang joins teammates Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and Damien Williams as the third Chiefs player to decide against playing due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Due to the opt-out, the Chiefs now have Niang under contract for four years beginning in 2021.
The official opt-out deadline is 3 p.m. Central today.
