Mahomes left money “on the table” for Jones deal

One day before the deadline, Chris Jones signed a four-year extension with the Chiefs worth up to $85 million.

While many fans were in doubt of a deal getting done before the deadline, Jones said it was never in doubt after Mahomes texted him after signing his record-breaking extension the week before.

“Pat texted me and said, ‘Let’s get this thing done. I left some on the table for you,’ that’s when I had that security that me and the Chiefs were going to work something out.”

Both Mahomes and Jones are now in for the long haul in KC, and both are set on building upon the success the team had in 2019.

“This is only the beginning; we plan to have another parade and another parade and another parade. We’re going to make sure we bring not one, not two, not three, not four, but five-plus rings to Kansas City. It’s been 50 years of waiting, but the wait is over now. It’s time to create a dynasty,” said Jones.

While five rings would be very difficult, the Chiefs will be contending every year with Mahomes guiding the offense and Jones leading the defense.
