The Chiefs have signed first-round RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire to his rookie contract, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Per Spotrac, the deal is worth $10.8 million with $8.1 guaranteed at signing.
Terez Paylor also reported earlier Monday that the Chiefs have reached verbal agreements with all of their draft picks, as seen above.
Edwards-Helaire is the first running back taken by the Chiefs in the first round since Larry Johnson was taken 27th overall in 2003.
Brett Veach stated in May that Damien Williams will start as the main back, but Edwards-Helaire’s dual-threat ability is a perfect fit for Andy Reid’s offense and could see his role increase as the season goes on.
With four years and a potential fifth-year option, Edwards-Helaire has plenty of time to potentially grow into a star under Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy.
