For months the status of Chris Jones as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs has been unknown, but it was announced today that the team and Jones struck a deal to keep Jones in Kansas City for the foreseeable future.
The Chiefs had announced at the start of free agency that they would be set to use the franchise tag on Jones to prevent him from hitting the open market. While some thought this could lead to a tag and trade, others believed this would be use to buy time for the team to get into negotiations with Jones and his party. It took until July (and for the Patrick Mahomes mega deal to be complete), but the Chiefs and Jones reached an agreement to make him one of the highest paid defensive tackles in the NFL.
This is the second huge extension that General Manager Brett Veach and his staff have been able to work out this summer, and it is one that will keep a very rare and talented player in Kansas City for the next four seasons.
