Little-to-no traction on Chris Jones deal

Outside of extending Patrick Mahomes, extending Chris Jones remains the biggest priority for the Chiefs.

With the July 15 deadline for a long-term deal fast approaching and uncertainty of the cap moving forward, NFL Network’s James Palmer reports that there has not been much in terms of negotiations between Jones and the Chiefs.

The 2021 cap situation will be a major factor in the decision to extend Jones or not. If the cap falls as much as some say it could, the Chiefs simply would not be able to afford Jones without making a lot of other moves to offset that money.

If the Chiefs are unable to sign Jones long-term before July 15, they would have to wait until after the 2020 season to negotiate again.

Jones has yet to officially sign his franchise tag, and could decide to hold out for a new deal.
