Hello everybody and welcome to another week of the ArrowChop! This is the column where we look at the positives and negatives of a certain Chiefs/NFL issue and look at both sides of the arguments. Then you, the readers, will come to your conclusions after I lay out the case. So sit back, relax, and enjoy as we breakdown this week’s hot topic.
This week, we have a hot topic that is burning around a certain star in the league: Jamal Adams. He has recently stated that he wanted to be traded from the New York Jets and one of the teams that he desires to play for is the Kansas City Chiefs. With that up in the air, should the Chiefs try and trade for Adams? Let’s look at both sides of the playing field to see which side holds more truth.
The Chiefs Should Trade for Jamal Adams
The key reason why we should trade for Jamal Adams is for what he can/would bring to the defense. Through 2018 and 2019, he has totaled a numerous amount of glorious stats like 190 tackles, 10 sacks, 21 QB hits, 5 forced fumbles, and so many more. If he were to come to the Chiefs, he would be able to not only control the passing game by pressuring the quarterback, but by also disrupting/breaking up receivers and their routes. Adams has held about 55% completion percentage through his unstoppable 2018 and 2019 seasons, which in turn was among the best in the league for safeties. His 19 pass breakups through the past two years can also count to that claim.
The Chiefs Shouldn’t Trade for Jamal Adams
One main reason that this claim comes up is due to the fact that we have stellar safeties already with Thornhill and Mathieu. Mathieu has already solidified himself as one of the best safeties in the NFL at the moment and Thornhill is an up-and-coming star in the league. If we traded for Adams, it would seem as though that we have no trust in Thornhill. The team and the fans trust him greatly as many believe he will do spectacular things after his excellent rookie campaign. In a sense, trading for Adams would be unnecessary as we already have the safety spots filled.
Another reason that comes up is the affordability of Adams. Let’s say for example that we sent a deal over to the Jets for Adams and they accepted. Now, the Chiefs would have to sign Adams to a deal so he can stay, but at this point, they wouldn’t have the money to sign a star like him. As of right now, the Chiefs have a little under $3.6 million left in cap space, which is too little to sign a high-caliber player like Adams. The only way that this point was to be negated is if we traded a player that would give us the money to sign him and there aren’t a lot of pieces that we can just trade away due to their importance to the organization.
Those are the cases for if Adams should be on the Chiefs. Now, readers, it’s your time to decide if the Chiefs should take or stay away from Jamal Adams. Leave a comment below to join the discussion! Thanks for reading and have an awesome day.
