Kenneth Murray vs. Patrick Queen: Who is a better fit for KC?

The NFL Draft is a week away now and one of the Chiefs’ biggest needs is at the linebacker position.

The two top options for the Chiefs are Kenneth Murray and Patrick Queen at the No. 32 pick. Who is the better fit for the Chiefs?

Let’s begin with Murray. He is a terrific athlete. Murray possesses tremendous sideline-to-sideline speed, pairing it with his ability to aggressively shoot gaps and is a great tackler. By himself, Murray can overwhelm offenses with his high motor skills. After watching Kenneth Murray on film, I am reminded of Chiefs’ franchise legend, Derrick Johnson.

However, one aspect of Murray’s game that needs to improve is coverage. During his time with the Oklahoma Sooners, Murray didn’t play in man coverage very often. When he was placed in man coverage, he struggled. Murray has shown potential in zone coverage, but even in zone coverage, there were times when he appeared lost.

Overall, Murray would be a solid fit with the Chiefs. His athleticism and speed make him ready for the NFL. Murray needs to work and improve in coverage, but his speed and athleticism would be a welcome addition alongside Anthony Hitchens.

Meanwhile, Queen is also a terrific athlete. Queen possesses coverage skills that Murray lacks. He can cover running backs and tight ends with ease. Queen also has great play recognition on the field; dissecting plays as they unfold. Like Murray, Queen has sideline-to-sideline speed and is a great tackler with his electric hit power. Queen possesses a very high ceiling, exhibiting tons of potential.

Queen’s one downside is he was only a one year starter for the LSU Tigers. Queen doesn’t have as much experience Murray, and it has shown on the field at times. Queen could benefit by adding some strength while making sure to maintain his agility and athleticism.

Overall, Queen would be a terrific fit in Kansas City. The Chiefs need a linebacker who can play in coverage and has speed alongside the outside. Queen may have only started onE year for the Tigers, but has a ton of potential and a high ceiling.

For this draft, the better fit for the Chiefs is Patrick Queen. Queen fits the full needs of the Chiefs at the linebacker position. He can play in coverage on tight ends and running backs, and posses terrific speed on the outside. Queen is a match made in heaven for the Chiefs defense and would be great compliment to Hitchens.
