Damien Williams has informed the Chiefs that he will opt out of the 2020 NFL season.

Williams led the team in rushing in 2019, and rushed for over 100 yards in Super Bowl LIV. He recorded six total touchdowns during the playoffs.

“As an organization, we certainly understand and respect Damien’s choice, knowing it was made in the best interest of his family. He means a lot to our football team as a player and a person, and we’re going to miss having him around this season,” said GM Brett Veach.

Williams is the second Chief to opt-out, joining Laurent Duvernay-Tardif.

First-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire now appears set to take over the starting running back role for 2020.
