Chiefs trade DeAndre Washington to Dolphins

While the NFL trade deadline was quiet overall, the Chiefs got some value from a depth piece, trading DeAndre Washington and a seventh-round pick to Miami for the Dolphins sixth-round pick.

Washington was signed by the Chiefs as a free agent in the offseason after spending four years in Oakland with the Raiders, but never found his footing in the offense. In his lone performance in Denver two weeks ago, Washington carried the ball three times for five yards, and caught one pass for two yards.

With rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Darwin Thompson, and Darrel Williams all ahead of him on the depth chart, Washington spent most of the year on the practice squad.

When the Chiefs added Le’Veon Bell, it didn’t make sense to keep five running backs, and Kansas City is now back in the sixth round of the 2021 draft after trading their original pick to Tennessee to take BoPete Keyes in the seventh round of the 2020 draft.
