After being charged with multiple counts of armed robbery, Deandre Baker was released by the Giants, and his future in the NFL seemed bleak. Now, after chargers were dropped, Baker will sign with Kansas City, joining the practice squad.

Baker, 23, was a first-round pick by the Giants in 2019. In May, he was charged with four counts of robbery with a firearm in Florida. Seahawks CB Quinton Dunbar was also involved in the alleged incident, but prosecutors didn’t file chargers against him.

Just as suddenly as Baker was facing charges, the charges were dropped Monday after the lawyer of three of the four alleged victims was charged with extortion.

According to ESPN’s Adam Teicher, “the alleged victims and the known witnesses have become uncooperative and their credibility is inalterably tarnished,” said assistant state attorney Paul R. Valcore.

Teicher also reported that Baker is subject to league discipline pending an investigation.

As for on the field, Baker is seeking a fresh start away from the Big Apple, and although he will begin on the practice squad, he will likely see playing time in the future.

Yahoo Sports Terez Paylor reports that the Chiefs will elevate him to the active roster once he is caught up with the playbook.

For the Chiefs CB depth, Baker will slide into a depth role, with L’Jarius Sneed expected to return as soon as Sunday, and the usual starters healthy.
