Chiefs sign QB Jordan Ta’amu

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed former XFL QB Jordan Ta’amu to a one-year deal, per his agent Kenny Zuckerman.

Ta’amu went undrafted in 2019 coming out of Ole Miss but spent time in Houston with the Texans during training camp and the preseason. After being released from Houston, Ta’amu joined the XFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks.

With the Battlehawks, Ta’amu was one of the top QBs in the XFL. He completed 72% of his passes, posting 1,050 yards, and threw five TDs while only throwing two picks. He also had the most rushing yards by a QB with 217 yards.

Ta’amu is the second XFL QB to sign with an NFL team, with the Carolina Panthers adding P.J. Walker.

In Kansas City, Ta’amu will compete for the third QB spot with Kyle Shurmur behind Patrick Mahomes and Chad Henne. He will now get to learn under Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes as he continues to develop his game.

While Ta’amu is the first XFL player to sign with the Chiefs, he may not be the only one. Given the current Chiefs cap situation, the Chiefs could look to the XFL for cheap depth throughout the roster.
