It wasn’t pretty, but the Chiefs pulled out an overtime victory against rookie QB Justin Herbert and the Chargers by a final of 23-20. Harrison Butker was the hero, kicking both the game-tying and game-winning kicks, from 32 and 58 yards, respectively.

In a game where the Chiefs didn’t look like themselves from the start, they were able to crawl back and force overtime.

The Chargers came out with the first surprise of the day before kickoff, starting sixth overall pick Justin Herbert after Tyrod Taylor aggravated a rib injury pre-game.

Herbert led the Chargers down to a 7-0 lead on their first possession, and the Chiefs struggled offensively trying to tie the game. The offensive line struggled, and the unit looked out of sync from the beginning.

Mahomes was able to find Kelce in the endzone in the second, but the extra point was blocked after a holding call pushed the PAT attempt back to 43 yards, making the game 7-6.

The Chargers controlled the game for a good portion after the KC touchdown, extending their lead to 17-6 before Harrison Butker drilled a 58-yard field goal to make it 17-9.

The defense then stepped up, with L’Jarius Sneed nabbing his second pick in two games.

That interception gave the Chiefs a chance to tie the game, leading to this beauty.

The Chiefs were able to convert on the two-point conversion, tying the game at 17.

Los Angeles then went on a 17-play, 10 minute drive to take the lead again on Michael Badgley field goal, but again Kansas City responded by driving down and tying the game as the clock expired.

In OT, the Chiefs defense forced a three-and-out, and Mahomes led a 13-play drive to the LA 35. Despite a false start penalty and an attempted icing, Harrison Butker hit his second 58-yarder, a new career-high, of the game to move the Chiefs to 2-0.
