Updated: Travis Kelce, Chiefs agree to extension

Full Update: 7:15 CT

Just hours after news broke of George Kittle’s record extension, Travis Kelce agreed to a four-year extension of his own, tying him to the Chiefs through the 2025 season.

Kelce’s current deal is set to expire after 2021, but the extension keeps the two-time first-team All-Pro in Kansas City through 2025.

Adam Schefter later reported the total value of the deal, worth more than $14 million per season, and Mike Garafolo later reported the year-to-year cash flow for the duration of the deal.

Kelce has been one of the best in the league since entering the league in 2013, having never recorded less than 800 yards, including four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Kelce was the first TE in NFL history to do so.

In two seasons with Patrick Mahomes starting, Kelce has caught 200 passes for over 2,500 yards, including four touchdowns in the 2019-20 postseason, sparking both the Divisional Round 24-0 comeback and the Super Bowl LIV 20-10 comeback.

With Kelce and Mahomes now extended, the duo will be together for at least the next six seasons.

The Chiefs have done a phenomenal job keeping together their Super Bowl core, not only in the long-term but for 2020 as well.

With stars Mahomes, Kelce, and DT Chris Jones extended for at least four years each, as well as key contributors from 2019 returning, including Sammy Watkins, Mike Pennel, Anthony Sherman, and Bashaud Breeland, the Chiefs appear well set to make a run at a championship again.

Mike Garafolo provided an update ion the year-to-year specifics.

Update: 2:20 CT

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the deal is for four years and $57.25 million with $28 million in guarantees.

Just hours after George Kittle signed a record extension, the Chiefs have extended their own star tight end, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Kelce’s deal was set to expire after 2021, his age-31 season, but now he will be in Kansas City through his mid-30s alongside Patrick Mahomes.

Kelce is the third star Chief to receive an extension, along with Mahomes and star defensive tackle Chris Jones, who received both long-term deals this offseason.

Many have already given GM Brett Veach an A for this offseason, and this is only another positive after a Super Bowl run.
