Allen Robinson to Kansas City may be more realistic than you think

Allen Robinson is the hottest free agent wide receiver on the market and him signing with Kansas City may be more realistic than you think.

The Chiefs have two stud pass catchers in Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. However, Brett Veach has made it known he wants to continue to surround Patrick Mahomes with as much talent as he possibly can. He specifically reached out to Mahomes before this last draft and asked him who he wanted and the answer was Clyde Edwards-Helaire and that is exactly who they drafted in the first round of last year’s draft.

The Chiefs are likely losing Sammy Watkins and Demarcus Robinson this offseason. That will leave Tyreek Hill, Mecole Hardman and Byron Pringle as the only wide receivers with much experience left on their roster. They are going to need to address the issue one way or another.

Chiefs Kingdom has seen that the offense is always more efficient when Watkins is on the field healthy. When he is healthy, he is a physical guy who can win 1-on-1’s. Case in point, the fade down the right sidelines against Richard Sherman in the Super Bowl. Hill and Kelce just warrant so much attention that the next player, whoever that is, is going to get a lot of 1-on-1 matchups and chances to make big plays.

Allen Robinson is much better than Sammy Watkins, and that isn’t a knock on Watkins talent, that is just to say Robinson is uber talented and has produced with some pretty poor quarterbacks throwing him the ball. He has been in the league sevens seasons and has three seasons over 1100 yards with Mitchell Trubisky and Blake Bortles throwing him the ball.

With production comes big contracts. Per Spotrac his market value is $20 million per year. However, he has already Tweeted out that he wants to ring chase. Well, Kansas City has been to two straight Super Bowls and has the best young quarterback in the game. You have to wonder if some of these free agents, Robinson included, will take a discount to play in Kansas City with Mahomes.

If Robinson did decide to take somewhat of a small pay cut, Kansas City could certainly make space on the roster and find the money. I mean, we did watch Brett Veach take $177 and extend Chris Jones, Patrick Mahomes and sign Beshaud Breeland this offseason. So, how could they find the money?

Well, first let’s start at the tackle position. Unfortunately, the Chiefs are in an interesting position with both Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz. Fisher is likely not going to play this coming season with a torn Achilles and Schwartz is coming off a serious back injury. If they cut Fisher, which I unfortunately think they should, they would save $12 million dollars right there. I also think Schwartz could end up retiring or getting cut. That would save another $6 to $10 million dollars right there.

They also could cut running back Damien Williams, who opted out this past season and save over $2 million dollars. Additionally, restructuring Patrick Mahomes, Tyrann Mathieu, and Chris Jones could all end up saving money as well.

I think all these moves are more likely than not and would create plenty of space to sign Allen Robinson. They are going to have to address offensive line, obviously, but I think it is wise to continue to surround Mahomes with all the skill players you can.

So you see, signing Allen Robinson really is more realistic than you might have thought.

I agree but after a new Wide Receiver the Offensive Line is paramount and must be addressed. The Chiefs really do not need JJ Watts in the Offense especially with the big price tag. The Chiefs have made smart moves and they will continue to do so. Just got to get everyone heatlhy.
