The Blank Breakdown: Miami Dolphins Roster

The Miami Dolphins surprised many last year by reaching five wins following a sell off of multiple pieces before the season. Brian Flores was terrific in turning one of the least talented rosters in the league into one with a promising future.

This offseason, the Dolphins went on a spending spree by adding multiple pieces to their defense and offensive line for the 2020 season.

Key Additions: CB Byron Jones, LB Kyle Van Noy, RB Jordan Howard, RB Matt Breida, DE Shaq Lawson, OL Ereck Flowers, OL Ted Karras, LB Kamu Grugier-Hill, and LB Elandon Roberts

Key Departures: S Reshad Jones and LB Raekwon McMillan

With the active offseason from the Dolphins, let’s dive into the new-look starters for the team in 2020.

Offensive Starters:

  • QB: Ryan Fitzpatrick
  • RB: Jordan Howard
  • WR: DeVante Parker
  • WR: Preston Williams
  • WR: Jakeem Grant
  • TE: Mike Gesicki
  • LT: Austin Jackson
  • LG: Ereck Flowers
  • C: Ted Karras
  • RG: Solomon Kindley
  • RT: Jesse Davis

Defensive/Special Team Starters:

  • LDE: Christian Wilkins
  • NT: Davon Godchaux
  • RDE: Emmanuel Ogbah
  • WLB: Shaq Lawson
  • LILB: Elandon Roberts
  • RILB: Jerome Baker
  • SLB: Kyle Van Noy
  • CB: Byron Jones
  • CB: Xavien Howard
  • SS: Eric Rowe
  • FS: Bobby McCain

Strongest Position: Cornerback

After signing Byron Jones to a five-year deal in free agency, the Dolphins have created one of the best duos, if not the best, in the NFL at the cornerback position, pairing him with Xavien Howard. Jones is one of the best corners in the league with his terrific coverage skills. Howard is one of top young cornerbacks in the NFL. Despite missing 15 games over the past two seasons, Howard tied for the league lead in interceptions in 2018 with seven.

Weakest Position: Wide Receiver

The main reason I say the wide receiver position is due to depth. With the COVID-19 opt outs, the Dolphins lost two of their wide receivers in Albert Wilson and Allen Hurns. DeVante Parker and Preston Williams are a solid duo for the Dolphins at wide receiver for the Dolphins this season. they also just traded for Lynn Bowden Jr. from the Raiders, who was a third round pick in April’s draft.

The Dolphins are primed to improve this season, especially with their upgrades on defense. The offense may struggle a little bit with uncertainty at the quarterback position. I don’t expect the Dolphins to make a push for the playoffs, but I expect an improvement from last year.
