3 trade targets before training camp

The #RunItBackTour is just around the corner, and while the Chiefs have most of their championship team intact, I’d like to see some improvements. We all know that Veach isn’t afraid to pull the trigger on late offseason trades, so let’s pretend he does. Who do we want?

Get the easy one out of the way

The obvious trade target for the Chiefs has to be Jamal Adams. I’ve previously written about trade packages for Jamal. It involves Chris Jones. http://arrowheadlive.com/index.php/2020/06/19/trade-package-for-pro-bowl-safety-jamal-adams/

I’m well aware we have Tyrann and Juan…. but think bigger! Tyrann roaming the defense, and all the three safety packages Spags already has, sounds fun.

If not Jamal, still secondary help please

The Chiefs defense improved dramatically last year, and a Super Bowl win is what we have to show for it, but I think this year’s defense is pretty weak, secondary wise. Losing Kendall Fuller to the Redskins via free agency was expected, but it still stung. Bashaud Breeland’s immediate future is in question after an offseason arrest. I’d like to see the Chiefs take a swing at a strong veteran like D.J. Hayden of the Jaguars. I’ve seen a lot of names thrown out, but Hayden’s PFF grade is higher than any names I’ve seen thrown around. His grade was 76.9 and was ranked the 10th best CB by PFF. He’s 30 years old and never played on a contender. I’d love to see the Chiefs shoot their shot.

Another old vet

This move is assuming we don’t see, Chris Jones in a Chiefs uniform this year. If we don’t have that force on the line, I think Veach should give Cincinnati a call, and see what it would take to acquire Carlos Dunlap. Dunlap makes just shy of 11 million this year, which would be a significant discount from Chris Jones. While Dunlap is a no future piece, he could surely help this defense get to the QB. His 2021 deal sits at a 13.5 million cap hit but still is a big discount. If the Chiefs only wanted Dunlap for a year, his dead cap hit for 2021 is only 2.25 million.

Yes, they were all defense… surprised?

While I do think the offensive line could use a slight upgrade, Andy has always been pretty good about making do with what he has. Other than that, I don’t see ANY needs on offense. I think most fans would agree, the defense is the focal point for improving. Tweet us at @ArrowheadLive to share your trade wants, or just to bully me about my list!
